Hello all,

Sorry for the long layoff in Ryleigh updates. Darlene came to my office
and expressed very clearly it was time for one, so here it goes.

The last few weeks were somewhat uneventful for Ryleigh. She has been
very stable, requiring no additional oxygen, eating well, etc.

The past week, though, was another story (in a good way!!).

A couple of weeks ago we had attempted to feed Ryleigh with a bottle vs.
a feeding tube. She was fed via bottle once a day, and did pretty well,
taking around 5 ml/feeding. The remaining 22-25 ml she was fed through
her tube. For a week or so though we were not able to feed her with the
bottle. If the baby is being examined a lot or their temperature is on
the cooler side, the hospital staff does not want to pull them out of
the incubator. But, as of this past Friday we were allowed to feed her
from the bottle again. We give her a bottle at her 8:30 PM feeding, and
whatever she eats in 30 minutes is what we eats, then the rest is given
to her by feeding tube. On Friday she took 11 ml of her 30 ml feeding
via bottle, on Saturday she took 8 ml, and yesterday she took 14 ml!!
So, she is headed in the right direction.

Ryleigh now weighs about 1500 grams, which is 3 pounds 5 ounces. The
doctors increased her caloric intake (higher calorie formula), and her
weight is increasing slowly but steadily.

Her oxygen requirement is non-existent. She has been on room air
continuously for the past couple of weeks. The air pressure that her
nasal cannula provides also has been dramatically decreased, from 5
liters of pressure to 2 liters of pressure. She is very close not
requiring mechanical respiratory assistance.

Her biggest accomplishment over the past few weeks came yesterday.
Ryleigh is no longer in an incubator. She is out in the open in a "crib"
(it's basically a plastic bucket). She has to wear big girl clothes now,
primarily onesies with feet. She has been doing very well regulating her
temperature, and should be out of the baby cooker for good.

Ryleigh should be coming home any time in the next 3-6 weeks. I cannot
believe she has been in the NICU since January 3, and that we are so
close to having her come home. She is 9 weeks 2 days old today, her
corrected gestational age is 33 weeks 5 days.

We have received so many blessings with Ryleigh's health improvements
over the past few months, I am very grateful for every blessing, and
every prayer that has gotten us where we are today.

We are on our way!! Thanks again for all of your support, we are more
than appreciative.

Thanks

Bo
